The Peace and Freedom Party
pfp.jpgPeace and Freedom Party is a socialist and feminist party. In 1967 the party was formed in opposition to war in Vietnam by anti-racist, feminist, socialist freedom fighters, including the Black Panther Party. Its origin was as an election arm of the Black Liberation, anti-war and other radical movements of that time.

At its 1974 convention the party officially defined itself as socialist and in opposition to capitalism. Its website reads "We want a socialist economy, one where industries, financial institutions, and natural resources are owned by the people as a whole and democratically managed by the people who work in them and use them."

The PFP is currently in a serious fight for survival with the capitalist government's Proposition 14. The 2010 California constitutional amendment poses itself as a promoter of people's rights and democracy. In reality corporate lobbyists designed it to effectively remove third parties from the ballot to consolidate power in the hands of the top two capitalist parties by increasing the difficulty of the requirements to maintain ballot status.
