Presidential candidate Gloria La Riva speaking at a SF anti-war demonstration.
For the earth to live,
Capitalism must end!
Jobs, healthcare, housing, and education for all!
“Capitalism is a corrupt, bankrupt system that is destroying the environment while the super-rich accrue obscene wealth,” stated Gloria La Riva Presidential candidate nationally of the Party for Socialism and Liberation. Her Vice Presidential candidate is Washington DC-based activist Eugene Puryear. Gloria is seeking the nomination in California of the Peace and Freedom Party.
Gloria Estela La Riva
Gloria La Riva is a labor, community and anti-war activist based in San Francisco, California. Born in Albuquerque, N.M., Gloria attended Brandeis University where she was active in affirmative action struggles.
Gloria has been a registered member of the California Peace and Freedom Party since 1981. In 1994 and 1998, Gloria was the PFP's candidate for governor of California. She was the 2008 presidential candidate of the Party for Socialism and Liberation. Gloria is the elected Executive Vice President of the Pacific Media Workers Guild, Communications Workers of America, Local 39521.
La Riva is running on a ten-point program that includes, making a job, housing and healthcare constitutional rights, stopping racist police brutality and mass incarceration, full rights for all immigrants, and end to U.S. wars and interventions around the world.
The Peace and Freedom Party
Peace and Freedom Party is a socialist and feminist party. In 1967 the party was formed in opposition to war in Vietnam by anti-racist, feminist, socialist freedom fighters, including the Black Panther Party. Its origin was as an election arm of the Black Liberation, anti-war and other radical movements of that time.
At its 1974 convention the party officially defined itself as socialist and in opposition to capitalism. Its website reads "We want a socialist economy, one where industries, financial institutions, and natural resources are owned by the people as a whole and democratically managed by the people who work in them and use them."
The PFP is currently in a serious fight for survival with the capitalist government's Proposition 14. The 2010 California constitutional amendment poses itself as a promoter of people's rights and democracy. In reality corporate lobbyists designed it to effectively remove third parties from the ballot to consolidate power in the hands of the top two capitalist parties by increasing the difficulty of the requirements to maintain ballot status.
